Stories

Club Drugs

It Happened To My Child“Her liver and kidneys were shutting down. A cardiologist saw her. Her heart was giving out too. She didn’t have long to live. We were ushered for the last time into her room. There was no hope.”

It Happened To Me“I haven’t eaten Ecstasy in a long time, but I continue to feel the effects of it every day. I get depressed very easily, and my memory is completely shot. The sad thing is that I don’t even really remember being a little girl.”

Alcohol

Full of Regrets at Twenty-nine “The first time I was drunk, I was fifteen. The next year, sixteen years old, I started smoking pot. Both of these behaviors continued throughout high school until I graduated.”

A Mom’s Story “Less than half a mile from our house we cane upon the crash site. Police cars with lights flashing were everywhere. We saw our son’s truck, barely recognizable, with the entire right front end pushed into the cab. We pulled over next to the other vehicle, which was upside down, smoldering and being worked on by firefighters. There was a blanket covering the driver’s side. I will never forget what I saw that morning.”

“But it was just a beer party…” “΄Fall out’ usually begins on the day after the alcohol party and starts as parents return to their home to discover the remnants of the illegal get-together. Damages noted immediately include broken furniture and damaged fixtures, doors and drywall, all of which sustained deliberate damage due to abuse. It is discovered that visitors from the previous evening trespassed into the master bedroom, taking advantage of the hot tub, and ransacking the contents of every drawer.”

Marijuana

“Love Affair” – A Recovering Addict   "I kept getting busted, and was sent to a local treatment center, where I b.s.’d my way to a successful discharge with remarkable skill and ease. Then, I went back to pot. Finally, I ran into some very serious legal trouble just over a month later. My parents fortunately gave me more help than I deserved, but I felt spiritually dead. I had lost all hope and all my self-respect. I felt if such a thing as the soul existed, I certainly didn’t have one anymore.”

Marijuana – An Educator’s Perspective“Once students started using marijuana, grades declined rapidly, school attendance became a problem, most dropped out of extracurricular activities, problems with police were common, and conflict within the family was almost always admitted. In other words, the use of marijuana caused a rapid deterioration in so many of the positive qualities that parents and teachers want for our youth.”

Cocaine

Remembering JesseMy son Jesse’s drug and alcohol use began at around age fourteen, starting with marijuana. By age sixteen, Jesse was using crack cocaine and shortly after became addicted to heroin. Our lives became a living hell.”

Heroin

Emptiness In My Soul “I got to the point where I would be ‘dopesick’ after about three hours. Once I was ‘dopesick,’ I would do anything to get more heroin. I became strung out on heroin rather quickly. I lost 30 pounds and my skin color was a deathly pale.”

My Father Was An Addict“It was embarrassing for me at a young age to tell people that I didn’t really know my Father. Most of the time I lied to people about him, I always thought that if I admitted that my Father was an addict, that people would think that there was something wrong with me.”
